How pet age works

A pet's age in Grow a Garden is its level. It starts at age 1 (just hatched) and accumulates XP toward higher ages. The XP cost follows a power curve: floor(20 × age^2.02). This is verified ±2% to the in-game numbers by community testing.

FAQs

What is the maximum pet age in Grow a Garden?
Age 125 is the max in current Grow a Garden (April 2026). Beyond age 100, weight stops scaling (caps at 10× hatch weight) but XP and ability cooldown reduction continue accruing slightly.
How much XP do I need for age 100?
floor(20 × 100^2.02) = 218,776 cumulative XP. To go from age 1 → 100 you need exactly 218,776 XP earned over the pet's lifetime.
How much XP do I need for max age 125?
346,240 cumulative XP. From age 100 to 125 alone is 127,464 XP — almost as much as 1 → 100.
Why does the XP curve get steeper with age?
XP cost scales by power 2.02 (essentially squared). Each level costs ~2× the previous one. Age 50 → 100 doubles your cost; 100 → 125 doubles it again.
Can I skip ages?
No — XP is gained continuously and the pet ages up smoothly. Mutations like Inverted (+30% XP rate) speed up the rate but the curve is fixed.
What does age affect in trades?
NOTHING in modern Grow a Garden. Trade value depends on weight only. Age affects weight (heavier with more age) and ability cooldown — but not the trade-token formula directly. Use the Pet Value Calculator (weight-based) for trade values.
Is the XP curve the same for every pet?
Yes — the formula floor(20 × n^2.02) applies to every pet regardless of rarity or hatch weight. Heavier pets earn XP faster (5 + W/2 per second base), but the level requirements are universal.
