Grow a Garden Pet XP Calculator

Plan exact leveling time for any pet. Cumulative XP formula floor(20 × n^2.02) — verified ±2% to in-game. Stack 8 Capybara helpers + mutation boost to see when your pet hits age 50, 100 or max.

Note about Age vs Weight: This calculator uses age because XP raises a pet's age (leveling). Trade value uses weight — see the Pet Value Calculator for that. Age and weight are linked by W(age) = (W_hatch / 11) × (age + 10).

How leveling works in Grow a Garden

Pets gain XP every second based on their own weight and any helper pets nearby. When cumulative XP crosses an age threshold, the pet ages up: its weight grows linearly (max 10× hatch weight at age 100), and its ability cooldown shortens. This calculator tells you how many seconds, hours or days until your pet reaches a target age, given your setup.

XP rate breakdown

The total XP/sec your pet earns has three components:

Maximizing XP/sec — meta strategy

  1. Hatch + level a Capybara first (Uncommon Egg, 5% drop). Place it next to whatever pet you're leveling.
  2. Get 8 Capybaras, level them all to max weight. This is the big-picture goal.
  3. Apply Inverted or Ascended mutation to your active pet via the Mutation Machine.
  4. Keep hunger above 0 — pets stop XP gain when starving. Stack Watermelon / Pumpkin / Mushroom inventory.
  5. Wendigo as bonus helper: locks all other pets' hunger ≥ 60% for AFK leveling.

FAQs

What is the pet XP formula in Grow a Garden?
Cumulative XP to reach age n = floor(20 × n^2.02). Age 50 = 53,452 XP, Age 100 = 218,776 XP, Age 125 (max) = 346,240 XP. The exponent ~2.02 means each additional level costs ~2× the previous level.
Why does the calculator use age, not weight?
XP and age go hand-in-hand: a pet earns XP, which raises its age (level). Trade value uses weight (the trade calculator ignores age), but leveling uses age — a different system. This calculator answers "how long until my pet hits age 50/100?".
What is the base XP rate?
Base XP rate = 5 + (Weight / 2) per second from the pet itself. So a 10 kg pet earns 10 XP/sec at base, a 30 kg pet earns 20 XP/sec.
What is the best XP helper pet?
Capybara is the strongest: contributes 3 + 0.3 × weight XP/sec to all pets nearby. With 8 max-weight Capybara helpers (~35 kg each), you stack ~107 XP/sec on top of the pet's own rate. Generic helpers contribute about half (1.5 + 0.15 × weight).
What is the best XP mutation?
Multiplicative: Ascended (+50%) is best, then Inverted (+30%), Rainbow (+20%), Shiny (+15%). Fixed-rate: Mega adds ~25 XP/sec, Tiny adds ~17.5 XP/sec — these stack on top of the multiplicative %.
How long to level a pet from age 1 to 100?
Without helpers, a 4 kg unmutated pet takes ~30,000 seconds (~8.3 hours active play). With 8 max-weight Capybara helpers + Ascended mutation, this drops to ~2 hours. The XP curve is steep — half the total time is spent on the last 25 levels.
Is age 100 the level cap?
No — max age is 125 in current Grow a Garden. Age 100 is when weight scaling caps (10× hatch weight). Past 100, XP keeps accruing for diminishing returns: ability cooldown drops slightly, but the visible weight stays at 10× hatch.
Does food / hunger affect XP?
Yes — pets only gain XP while their hunger is above zero. Tiny mutation reduces hunger drain by 20%; Mega increases by 20%. Use Wendigo to lock other pets' hunger above 60%.
